Have you ever tried taking on something new and exciting, but the experience felt like building a plane while flying it? As if you were going on all cylinders and couldn't slow any of them down in fear of losing momentum? That my friends, is the point when you are in the danger zone of being completely and utterly distracted from what you originally set out to do.
We advance, grow and learn from our mistakes. We create, discover and try new things. There is nothing wrong with multiple pursuits, but the key is keeping them separate enough that they do not compete against each other and maintained in a way that is benfecial. Don't let your curiosity hinder the pursuit of your goal. Take time to pause and reflect, what is your work's cause & effect?
Stay in your lane and stand with confidence that you are not giving up your position. This is a delicate dance that I've watched multiple mentors successfully navigate. Both distractons and opportunities can occur at anytime. With bells and whistles or through simple suggestion. Think about whether or not the adjusted position is something you will still be comfortable with five years from now.
This is a crucial new addition to my business plan, actually factoring in time to contemplate which method will be truest to the origial purpose and ways that each moving part can run efficiently. What is motivating you towards a certain project and what possibilities can be anticipated in the response t it? As a photographer, I want to capture weddings, but more than that I want to capture art, culture, and create a photo that takes you somewhere.
